It’s coming on quite nicely.

In the past two years, I have two books that I’ve completed only halfway and dreaded going back to for reasons unbeknownst to me. A part of me reckons it’s because I spent too much time away from them.

But methinks it’s a hell of a lot deeper than that.

Being an aspiring writer in Nigeria isn’t the most convenient of endeavors. Sure, there are people who still love to read and, for some reason, everyone deems themselves top-notch critics of the written word. I like that there are people who read what I pen down and are like, “This is really great. Doesn’t even feel like it was written by a Nigerian.” I can’t say if it’s the greatest compliment or a polite insult.

I’ve tried my best to cultivate my writing and create a somewhat unique space and sound for myself when it comes to that but a part of me wishes that Nigerian writers would get more recognition. Which brings me to my new book.

I started in January and, truth be told, it’s coming on quite nicely. Not like I expected it to fail; I knew people who read it would love it. And, that’s the real reason I write. It’s stimulating to my brain and there are sometimes where I refuse to believe I thought about an entirely kickass book idea, plot, ending… the whole shebang. But I love it more because people love it. If no one loved what I wrote, I would definitely find something else to do.

Tackling a New Genre

This new book is about parahumans, metahumans, capes, supes… whatever you want to call them. For me, fantasy writing is the road less traveled by. In fact, it is the road I pretty much swore from day one that I would never set foot on. And here I am.

As I compose these strings of letters on the 4th of March, 2023, I’m about 23,000 words in and, for the third frigging time, the entire story is coming on quite nicely. I hope to finish this book this year and publish it, somewhere, somehow.

In the meantime, I’m publishing each chapter on Wattpad as I make progress. If you want to check it out and read what I have, the link will be in the description. (I hope to God that there’s a space for that somewhere).

Well, time to go back to writing while these creative juices are still flowing. Toodles.
